Historic Columbus restaurant brings back legendary all you can eat buffet for first time in 5 years
The pandemic was downright awful – many traditions and customs that we once knew and loved were ripped away from us, including a legendary buffet at one of Columbus’ favorite restaurants.
But five years later, and the world-famous Autobahn Buffet is back. Schmidt’s Sausage House, which has roots dating back to the 1800s (but the restaurant portion opened in 1967), announced that their all-you-can-eat lunch and dinner buffet is officially on the menu again.

“We listened to our guests and after an overwhelming amount of cries or the buffet, it’s finally back and we cannot be more excited,” Schmidt’s said on Facebook.
The buffet has been an institution in Columbus since 1991. It offers a variety of housemade sausage, plus meatloaf, classic German sides like mashed potatoes and vegetables, soup, salad, rolls, and much more. This Autobahn buffet was even featured in the hit show Man vs. Food.
The historic German Village restaurant is located at 240 E. Kossuth St.
