Historic Columbus waterfront restaurant reopening this summer after water damage forces years-long closure

In 1987, as redevelopment along the Scioto River began, a waterfront restaurant was opened on stilts above a flood plain, overlooking the water. For years, Confluence (which then changed its name to The River Club before becoming present day The Boat House) served as a hot spot for high-end cuisine and events boasting gorgeous views of the Columbus skyline and riverfront.

Like most restaurants, The Boat House’s restaurant was forced to close during Covid. Then, although it was built above a flood plain, The Boat House suffered water damage in 2022 due to a broken water pipe, forcing the event space to close as well. With this closure, an opportunity to remodel the vintage building was taken, and it eventually reopened, but only as a special events space.

But years later, The Boat House restaurant is coming back. “Guests can look forward to once again enjoying a full-service dining experience at one of the city’s most scenic waterfront destinations, where the Olentangy and Scioto Rivers meet,” said the press release.

“The reopening marks a return to the hospitality and riverside charm that have made the venue a favorite for locals, travelers, and event goers for decades,” it continued.

The Boat House, located at 679 W. Spring St., has updated its menu, offering creative spins on house favorites, like Caviar Frites and The Boat House Smashburger, and even a raw bar featuring a seafood tower. Oh, and don’t forget the Dirty Caviar Martini with that.

The exact opening date has yet to be announced, but it’s definitely happening this summer. They’ll be open for dinner service only from 4pm-9pm, Wednesdays through Sundays. They’re hosting its annual Fourth of July event next Thursday in conjunction with Red, White, & Boom, where you’ll have a front row seat to the fireworks sparkling in the sky and reflecting off the River, plus live music, a BBQ buffet, and great drinks. You can buy those tickets here.
