Is Block’s Bagels gone forever? Nope! New deli opening in former Block’s space plans to use same bagel recipe

We all felt a collective sense of heartbreak when we learned Hal Block, founder of Block’s Bagels, passed away, and that the beloved bagel & deli would be closing.
But this isn’t the end for Block’s Bagels.
A Cincinnati area-based kosher bagel chain, Marx Bagels, is moving right into the former Block’s Bagels, located at 6115 McNaughten Road. And guess what? The same bagels you know and love will be there, too.

Interestingly enough, Marx Bagels was also founded by Hal Block and his wife, Audrey, in the 1960s. An employee named John Marx acquired the shop in Blue Ash and renamed it back in 1969. The new owner, Y.Y. Davis, continued to use Block’s bagels for catering.
Marx Bagels is projected to open in April, keeping their name as Marx, but offering the same bagels from Block’s. The press release states that a “mini-renovation” is underway.

Their Cincinnati location is pescatarian-focused, serving egg salad, tuna salad, and salmon, and the new Columbus shop will also not serve any meat. Over Marx’s 50 years in business, he was often encouraged to add meats but always maintained strict kosher standards, according to their website.
While you won’t be able to get a corned beef Reuben anymore, you can get a tuna Rueben.
