Local bar being sued by City of Columbus after recent double shooting

A tiny bar with a big “history of violence” is being sued by The City of Columbus.

The lawsuit, recently filed against First Stop Bar and Grill at 1427 Oakland Park Ave. by the City Attorney’s Property Action Team, says that along with years of complaints and calls for service, the bar also has a history of liquor violations.

Since 2023, two shootings, reports of two shots fired, a report of a stabbing, a robbery, two fights, five persons with guns, and reported assault have occurred at this North Linden bar. In May of 2024, the Columbus Liquor Nuisance Abatement Group found violations during their inspection, including moldy nozzles behind the bar, fire code violations (exit doors unable to open, combustible materials in the boiler rooms, etc.) and failure to find and post their liquor permit. Undercover agents also found underage sales at the bar.

According to the lawsuit, on July 9, officers witnessed a car stop in front of the bar and fire multiple shots, then drove away, and crashed after being followed by officers. One person was shot in the stomach and another in both legs.
