Local fried chicken chain abruptly closes a restaurant

A hot chicken chain known for spicy Nashville-style fried chicken sandwiches and tenders abruptly closed a location on Sunday.
Hot Chicken Takeover made its way to Lewis Center a little over two years ago, but it just closed its location at 8715 Owenfield Dr. in Lewis Center yesterday, January 26.
The new owners, Craveworthy Brands, which acquired the local chicken chain last year, announced the closure via social media and thanked Columbus for their support. The six other Central Ohio Hot Chicken Takeovers are still open at North Market Downtown, Grandview, Gahanna, Clintonville, Westerville, and at Easton.

Hot Chicken Takeover was founded by Joe DeLoss back in 2014 right here in Columbus, quickly becoming popular enough to be bought out by Untamed Brands in 2021, then again by another huge brand, Craveworthy. Craveworthy also owns Budlong Southern Chicken, and they’re combining the Hot Chicken Takeover and Budlong menus – in other cities & states, the concept will be called Budlong Southern Chicken, but the name Hot Chicken Takeover will remain in Columbus.
