Meet the must-try New Haven-inspired pizza pop up launched by a Hilltop native

The man behind a former Columbus corn stand is bringing pizza to The Hilltop and beyond.

Danny Phillips, a Hilltop native and longtime local culinary professional, has created a unique new pizza concept that’s launching later this month.

Bobby Jo’s Pizza will hold its first-ever event on March. 28 at Third Way Coffee, which is located at 3059 W. Broad St.

“My fiance and I were both raised in The Hilltop, and there’s not always a lot to do there, I really want to bring something to the West Side that’s different and exciting,” Phillips, who previously operated the Ear Goes Nothing elote stand, said.

And what kind of pizza will Bobby Jo’s serve? Well, it’s complicated.

“I don’t really know what to call it. I wanted a New Haven-style pie, but what we’re making is not that exactly. I mean, I’ve never even been to New Haven,” Phillips said with a laugh. “Our pizza is crispy. It’s a little charred, more like a well-done New York-style.”
