New Buckeyes-focused restaurant and bar opens on High Street

A new game day hangout has landed on High Street.

Joey’s Place–a Near North Side spot serving comfort food, and serving as a hangout for Buckeyes games–has been in a soft opening phase since Aug. 1, and will hold its grand opening on Aug. 30. OSU fans likely already have this date marked on their calendars, however, as the Bucks kick off the 2025 football season against Texas (horns down) at noon.

The date of the grand opening celebration for the new spot isn’t a coincidence, either. Joey’s Place, named after owner Joey Maier, bills itself as a Buckeyes hotspot, with a multitude of TVs, a patio, game day drink specials and more. It also plans to open at 8 a.m. on Aug. 30.

“Being just blocks from campus, Joey’s Place is a natural home base for Buckeye Nation. We’re set up as a primary game day launch spot — whether it’s pregaming, catching the action, or celebrating after the win,” general manager Loren Stone said. “With 11 TVs inside and out, a big patio, and a newly added media system, Joey’s Place is built for Buckeye game days.”

The kitchen of Joey’s Place will open this weekend, according to Stone.

“We’re kicking things off with a range of menu options as we ramp up. Some of our early favorites are flatbread pizzas and sandwiches — craveable, easy-to-share, and already building buzz,” Stone said. “As the operation gains steam, we’ll continue rolling out new items and expanding the menu in line with Joey’s creative vision and style.”
