New European-inspired bakery and coffee shop opening in the Short North

While today’s coffee culture involves grabbing something in a to-go cup and heading out the door, a new cafe coming to the Short North wants people to stay, the European way.
“Come, sit down, enjoy a cup of coffee, and enjoy the community,” said Almu, owner of Tertulia, a new European-inspired cafe opening at 997 N. High St. this month. “We don’t want to be a ‘come and go’ type of place. Please, savor the coffee, the pastries, and the cakes.”

“Tertulia” is a Spanish word for conversing and gathering with friends, originally centered around books and art, something Almu hopes the patrons of Tertulia embody. The walls will even be covered with art by local artists in partnership with a local non-profit, with 100% of the proceeds going directly back to the artist.
The family-owned cafe will serve Spanish-style coffee drinks, with European-style crema, but also typical espresso drinks like cortados and cappuccinos, as well as cold brew, loose leaf teas, and more. As for pastries, imagine cakes and tarts you’d find in Italian and Spanish coffee shops.
If all inspections go as planned, Almu told 614Now that Tertulia aims to open on June 19 or 20.
