New reggae speakeasy opens in historic Columbus building
The Columbus Museum of Art is taking “interactive art” and “living art” to an entirely new level.
A new, permanent piece was unveiled last Friday at CMA’s Short North satellite campus, called the Pizzuti, located at 632 Park St., and it’s not just a painting of a bar, but rather an actual bar. And so far, people are loving it already.

This new reggae-themed speakeasy, dubbed The Bar Room, is on the third floor of The Pizzuti. It’s complete with handcrafted, rum-forward cocktails, locally roasted coffee, and a curated, Caribbean-inspired food menu with jerk chicken wings and hot patties. There’s a pool table, dim lamps, and an all around cool vibe.
The Bar Room is inspired by Bahamian conceptual artist Tavares Strachan’s local haunts of his youth in the Bahamas. Equal parts art installation, gathering place, and living archive, Bar Room invites visitors to slow down, enjoy music, food, and drink, shoot pool, and converse—while immersed in an environment entirely of Strachan’s making.
Hours are Thursdays, 2-8PM, Friday and Saturday 2-10PM, and Sunday, 10-4PM. Admission is $5, and not only grants you access to The Bar Room, but the surrounding galleries as well.
