A rooftop patio and a whole lot of wine are coming soon to Delaware.

According to co-owner John Cordas, Open BTL, an upscale wine bar and wine club, will take over the former home of J. Gumbo’s in Delaware. It will be located at 39 E. William St.

Open BTL will feature a retail wine shop and bar, with what be believes will be one of the largest wine collections in the county.

Patrons will be able to stop by for a glass, and will be able to join the concept’s wine club, which will send them a selection of bottles monthly based on their preferences.

“I’ve been a wine club member myself for 15 years. When I tell people I have one they think I’m rich. It’s not that, I just don’t want to go to  Kroger to get my wine, I want someone who knows what they’re doing to pick wines for me,” Cordas said. “I always thought the accessibility of wine is just off. We’re going educate people a lot, our whole thing is we want to make sure people have that accessibility.”

Additionally, it plans to have Delaware’s first-ever rooftop bar and patio. According to Cordas, many concepts have tried to offer one, but don’t meet city specifications. He said, due to the building’s parking lot and it operating as a standalone building, the Open BTL space does meet requirements.

Cordas said the new concept is aiming to open in early February.
