North Market Announces 15,000-square-foot Expansion, including new bar

Jordan Abbruzzese

The historic North Market downtown has just named architectural partners for their highly anticipated expansion project. Per a recent news release, The North Market will be working with Columbus firms GRA+D Architects to lead the design, and Ruscilli Construction to manage the construction project.

“We are thrilled to partner with GRA+D Architects and Ruscilli Construction for the North Market expansion,” said the North Market news release. “Their combined expertise will help us create a space that both honors the rich history and character of North Market and evolves to meet the needs of our community.”

The 15,000-square-foot addition will be on the east side of the market, as a part of the 32-story mixed used Merchant Building tower. The new area will be centered around a Market-owned bar concept, with spaces for five-to-seven new vendors around the bar’s perimeter. The expansion will also include an additional guest common room and seating, more washrooms, and a second story event space for “state-of-the-art dedicated events” overlooking the new outdoor market plaza.

“The North Market expansion represents a significant investment in the local community and economy, promising to create new opportunities for merchants, enhance visitor experiences, and contribute to the vibrancy of the surrounding area,” said the press release.

Originally founded in 1876, The North Market stands as a historic landmark that has continued to grow and evolve with Columbus, including opening a second location in the City of Dublin’s Bridge Park in 2020. We can’t wait to see the finished expansion project and which new vendors will call The North Market home!
