Ohio bakery cited for alleged major violations following investigation
Failing to train workers, failing to perform safety tasks on machines, failing to guard highly dangerous machines—these are just some of the violations an Ohio bakery is being cited with by federal authorities.
New Horizons Baking Company, located in Norwalk, OH, makes soft sandwich buns and English muffins for fast-food restaurants, even McDonald’s. They serve over 2,000 restaurants across Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Their food seasoning plant is located in Columbus.

When the U.S. Department of Labor investigated the bakery, they found that the employer had allegedly exposed workers to unsafe conditions, such as chemical exposure, getting caught-between and inside machinery, pinch-point, and struck-by hazards.
OSHA also found three repeat violations for failing to train workers on safety procedures, exposing employees to hazards. The penalties for three repeat violations and nine serious violations amount to $394,849 according to OSHA.
