Owners of Chapman’s Eat Market launching new wood-fired Italian restaurant in the Short North

While Hireath, the wood-fired concept from one of the city’s brightest culinary stars, didn’t last in the Short North, an exciting new concept will be taking its place soon.
According to BJ Lieberman, owner of Chapman’s Eat Market and co-owner of Ginger Rabbit (alongside partner Bronwyn Haines), Metsi’s, a wood-fired Italian restaurant will take over the former multi-level space that once housed Hireath.
Located at 36 E. Lincoln St., Lieberman is hoping to open Metsi’s in June, although no official date has been announced yet.

The concept will feature classic Italian cuisine with a culinary–and flame-kissed–flair.
“The big thing we wanted to figure out was a concept that’s a really good fit for the Short North and for the space,” he said. “I’ve loved Italian food, mostly making it, but also eating it: mozzarella, focaccia, all of those simple, highly recognizable dishes.”
He said the eatery will also offer a grilled steak with salsa verde, grilled fish and much more.
”Almost all of the foods that we think of as classically Italian were at one point touched by fire,” Lieberman said.
The split-level space will embrace the “living-giving properties” of fire on its street level, with an open, airy, “mediterranean” feel, while the lower level will represent the destructive qualities of fire, with a central hearth and reflective surfaces.
‘We want it to feel like flames are dancing around the restaurant,” he said.
