Popular Downtown pizzeria temporarily loses license; here’s what happened

“If my wife could have divorced me a second time, she would have,” Luke, the owner of OH Pizza & Brew chided.

This week, speculation around OH Pizza & Brew, which has been located at 88 E. Broad St. for 11 years, were circulating, with murmurs of a potential closure due to customers finding a tax notice and liquor suspension posted on their door.

“The amount of headache it’s caused is pretty crazy,” Luke said. He admitted that he dropped the ball on paying last year’s taxes, thinking that he had enough time to make up the quarter of a million dollars he owed to local districts and other distributors. His wife, who he’s going through an amicable divorce with, was primarily responsible for all finances and payroll in the past. “All I did was go to work and make food,” said Luke.

But last July, when finalizing parts of the divorce, finances were turned over to Luke. “I thought I knew what was going on, but I didn’t realize the multitude of places that money needed to be distributed to, including local school districts. Next thing I know, I get a call from her saying, ‘Just so you know, you’re going to get penalties.

At that point, he knew this was outside his area of expertise, but he thought he’d hire someone quickly and knock all of the penalties out. By the time they got around to it though, a tax notice was placed on the door of his Downtown pizzeria, suspending his liquor and soda license.

According to Luke, as of yesterday, “We are now in the clear. I paid around a quarter of a million dollars in two months.”

OH Pizza & Brew has fortunately been able to stay open under this suspension, still serving up your favorite pizza and wings.

“I take 100% of the accountability,” said Luke.
