Restaurant by owners of Local Cantina abruptly closes after a year and a half
In early 2024, Orange Umbrella Restaurants, the group behind Local Cantina and Liberty Tavern, opened a new restaurant and tavern in Johnstown.
A year and a half later, Uncle Johnnie’s abruptly and quietly closed. The restaurant was located at 65 S. Main St., known for tavern fare like burgers, pizza, and more.

Representatives from Orange Umbrella Restaurants told 614Now that the restaurant is transitioning to new ownership. “Uncle Johnnie’s is now set to pass the torch to a new restaurant group eager to continue serving the Johnstown community,” they said. “It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to Uncle Johnnie’s, but we’re genuinely excited about the future of our company,” said George Tanchevski, founder of Orange Umbrella Restaurant Group. “The Johnstown community has been incredibly supportive during our time here, and we’re eager to welcome the patrons of Uncle Johnnie’s to our other concepts.”
