Restaurant chain closes last Central Ohio location after 13 years

“We don’t like long goodbyes around here. We also know that when you’re a part of a community for as long as we have been, there are a lot of opinions and emotions that surface when changes take place,” said a Facebook announcement.
J. Gumbo’s, located at 39 E. William St. in Delaware, has said goodbye after 13 years. The restaurant was not only known for their crawfish cheese dip & gumbo, but their commitment to providing equal employment opportunities to people with developmental disabilities.
“There comes a time in every small business when we have to decide which direction we will go and the right time to do it. So many thoughts, emotions, ideas and sleepless nights go into these decisions, but the most important is our family,” said J. Gumbo’s Facebook post.

They continued, “When we set out on this business journey, our son had just turned 1. Many of you have seen him grow up (and up!) here in the restaurant. You encouraged and have given him lots of opportunities to grow and learn business, customer service and marketing. He has a bright future ahead of him as he enters high school in the fall. We want to savor these years with him. We would like to spend our time and efforts in other endeavors. The time and commitment to run a successful restaurant is immense and even then, the odds are not in your favor. We are grateful we have been able to do so for 13 years.”
J. Gumbo’s Delaware’s last day was March 4th. There are still other locations of the chain in Cincinnati and Blue Ash, as well as around Kentucky, but no others are left in Central Ohio.
