Someone has been vandalizing the door of Clintonville business with cooking grease since January
Buckle up, Columbus, because this is about as unusual as they come.
According to a social media post from Eclectiques Antique Mall, which is located at 3265 N. High St. in Clintonville, an unknown individual poured what the business believes to be cooking grease on their front door. Three different times over the span of five months.
“THREE times now, in the middle of the night, someone has poured cooking grease down our front door. Due to the continuation of the vandalism, we are working to find more information and hopefully put an end to this saga,” the business’ post reads “We are asking our community to help us assemble any more information, or help us locate this person. We know this is a long shot. While we believe they are local to the area, we are not sure if they are walking or parking a car off camera.”

The most recent grease incident took place just after 1 a.m. on May 29, with other incidents occurring on Feb. 26 and Jan. 14. The business said it has “almost certainly ruled out this being a random occurrence,” and that they “believe it is someone in our community, living close by.”
According to Eclectiques social media manager and one of its store-runners Jeff Mayo, only one of the store’s two front doors is typically used, and the other remains locked. The grease is always poured on the door that is unlocked and used by customers, implying the culprit is familiar with the business.
”It’s like the ultimate inconvenience. It’s almost like they’re thinking, ‘What’s the most I can do without damaging or hurting anything,’” Mayo said, “This is speculation, but I do think it’s someone we know, whether it’s a vendor or a vendor who wasn’t accepted…but we don’t really conflict with people. If this is something someone is mad about, it’s something they’ve kept.”
Eclectiques sells goods and antiques from a collection of vendors in the area.
You can watch a video clip of the incident below, where an individual with a hood appears to drip grease down the front of Eclectiques’ door, before splattering even more on the door.
While the business has its own security footage, it’s turning to the Clintonville community to help them find more.
“IF YOU ARE LOCATED on a High St cross street such as COMO, LONGVIEW, BRIGHTON, or LAKEVIEW on either side of High! Or if you are along High St. Please check out your cameras on the following dates!
WE NEED: security footage from businesses or residences around the following time frames:
– 1/14/25 between 4:30-5:30AM
– 2/26/25 between 2:00-3:00AM
– 5/29 between 1:00-2:00AM”
Mayo said a police report was filed by the building’s landlord, but expects it to not be a priority for Columbus Police.
“We just want it to stop, we’re not thinking Justice or revenge. It just weighs on me because we’re a businesses who operates 60 others business inside,” Mayo said. “You’re really screwing with this huge community who works really hard.”
