A new bar and restaurant–anchored by an old face for many Columbus foodies–is joining the East Market’s roster.

Jamie George, longtime Columbus chef behind ‘Plas, Z Cucina and the soon to open Rize Cafe, is launching a “small plate bar” in the Market’s pop-up vendor space.

The new concept, called Plate, will serve as a test kitchen of sorts for the Italian-focused Rize Cafe and the Rize Cafe supper club. George said Plate will combine small plates with drinks, focusing on unique menu items at Rize and the supper club it will regularly host.

“I have been wanting Jamie to do something at the market for a long time but figured he had his hands full with Rize. I was thrilled that we could make this happen,” said East Market director of operations Aubrey Stevens.

Those waiting to try Plate won’t need to wait long either, as Plate plans to open on Aug. 2. George said if the concept is performing well, it’s possible Plate could be become a full-time East Market vendor as well.
