What makes the perfect cookie? For me, it’s a chocolate chip—fully baked but soft in the center, just enough crisp on the edge, and a little caramelization magic from the oven (shoutout to the Maillard reaction for doing the most). That said, I don’t discriminate. Thin and crispy? Love it. Thick and soft? Heck yeah. Frosted, stuffed, as big as a frisbee? Absolutely. If it’s a cookie, I’m interested. Columbus has plenty of cookie talent, but these are five spots that stand out—and what to order when you get there.
Cookie Nerds (1376 Cherry Bottom Rd, Gahanna) Pizza Nerds didn’t stop at pies— they expanded into cookie territory, and I’m glad they did. Their sister concept, Cookie Nerds, is baking up stuffed artisan cookies that are, no exaggeration, the best I’ve ever had. All the cookies on this list are special, but these are truly a game changer. Perfectly baked, rich but balanced, with rotating weekly flavors. This week’s pick: Sugar Choco Chip.
The Bearded Baker (212 Kelton Ave) Known for seasonal gourmet cheesecakes, handmade cookies, and cookie sandwiches, this spot delivers on every level. The vibe is chill, but the baked goods are seriously elevated—everything I’ve had here is a hit. My favorite cookie is the Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookie—soft, gooey, and finished with just the right touch of salt.

Bake Me Happy (multiple) This gluten-free bakery makes sweet treats for everyone, and I mean it—I’m not gluten-free, and I love this place. The name is fun, the vibe is welcoming, and the baked goods always hit the spot. The Oatmeal Creme Cloud is iconic, and the Peanut Butter Burner cookie is another must try.
Pistacia Vera (541 S 3rd St, Columbus) This bakery is known for its French pastries, and their cookie game is just as strong. The Chocolate Chunk Pistachio Cookie is phenomenal—elegant and packed with flavor. And the beloved macarons: delicate, light shells with rich, balanced fillings. My favorites are lemon and strawberry.
Resch’s Bakery (4061 E Livingston Ave) A Columbus classic, open since 1912, with a second location on the way. The cookies here are simple and nostalgic in the best way. My two favorites are the chocolate chip and peanut butter—no frills, just delicious.
