$1 billion planned data center backs out of Central Ohio

A project planned for 79 acres in Central Ohio has been scrapped.

Sentinel Data Centers‘ $1B data center, which was proposed to West Jefferson’s Village Council in March, is no longer moving forward due to power and energy constraints.

The center was projected to create 75-100 full-time jobs in Central Ohio.

According to Bloomberg News, data centers are using up so much energy and electricity that residents in nearby towns are facing soaring power bills. “Wholesale electricity costs as much as 267% more than it did five years ago in areas near data centers,” the outlet said. “That’s being passed on to customers…the power needs of the massive complexes are rapidly driving up electricity bills.” Read more about that here.
