41 year old retail chain closes multiple Columbus & Ohio stores

A national chain has closed 700 stores since 2020, and it appears they’re not stopping.
Gamestop, which first opened in 1984, reported a 20% drop in sales in the past couple of years. They’re quietly closing a significant number of stores, including 26 in Ohio. The Cleveland Ave. location abruptly closed recently, as well as the Gamestop in Powell, Lewis Center, Campus, Whitehall, and S. Hamilton Rd. The Newark and Heath locations are gone, as well.

The national game retail chain is also closing stores in Cincinnati and other Ohio cities, and last month, there were 400 closures throughout the nation. Gamestop has also reportedly shut down its operations in Germany, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland, and Austria.
According to Time Out, “The wave of closures reflects GameStop’s losses as it struggles to adapt to a changing market following a shift towards digital downloads and game streaming.” Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter said, “GameStop has virtually no chance of returning to profitability in its core business.”
