After apple thefts continue, Central Ohio farm involves law enforcement

Lynd Fruit Farm made a public announcement about its struggles with u-pick apple thieves its opening weekend, and as the problem has persisted, the farm has resorted to involving law enforcement.

“This is our new policy…apples hidden from our checkout crew result in a call to the sheriffs office,” a post made over the weekend to Lynd’s Facebook page reads.

According to the post, in the last three weeks alone, four different would-be apple thieves were caught. In each case, police were called and charges were filed.

Lynd posted photos of apples hidden in spare tire compartments, apples hidden under blankets in a back seat and more.

According to co-owner Andy Lynd, the sixth generation family-owned farm relies on u-pick apples for a large percentage of its annual income, as Lynd serves as a retail-focused farm.
