Truck carrying gummy bears catches fire in Ohio

A tractor-trailer carrying a load of gummy bears caught fire in a Northeastern Ohio truck stop over the weekend.

According to a WFMJ report, the blaze occurred in the early hours of May 19 at the Petro Truck Stop in Girard, which is located just northwest of Youngstown.

The Weathersfield Township Fire Department responded following a call that came in just after 2:30 a.m. The driver of the truck noticed the flames when he was pulling off Interstate 80 onto Salt Springs Road (Exit 226), according to the WFMJ story.

It’s unclear what caused the fire, and the Weathersfield Fire Department could not be reached for comment before this story was published. According to the WFMJ report, while the truck was significantly damaged, neither the driver nor any of the responding firefighters were injured in the incident.
