Battle of the Bagels: two local delis reach settlement after disputing for nearly 3 years

Things got a little confusing two years ago, when a longstanding bagel & deli shop all of a sudden change its name.
In 2022, former Block’s business partner Jeremy Fox changed the name of the two Block’s Bagel’s locations he was operating (one near Bexley, the other in the North Market Downtown) to “Fox’s Bagel & Deli,” causing a multi-year dispute and lawsuit. Block’s claimed that Fox still had four years left from their 10-year agreement.

According to court documents in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Block’s initial claim against Fox included $1.3 million in unpaid goods and bonuses, license fees, lost profits, and equipment fees. After 3 years, both parties have reached a settlement, with Fox only paying $9,791 in those aforementioned unpaid goods, plus a $290,000 unsecured claim paid in quarterly installments (pending court approval).
Fox filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2023, moving the case out of Franklin County Municipal Court, allowing Fox’s to still operate while trying to settle their debt.
Fox’s Bagels & Deli remains at 3012 E. Broad St. and North Market, and Block’s Bagels & Deli still resides at 6115 McNaughten Rd.
