Central Ohio doggie daycare damaged by flash flooding, trapping dogs and staff in waist-high water

Last summer, Ohio experienced its most intense drought in 25 years. But this summer, we’re now facing intense rain resulting in flash flooding.

Over the weekend, flash flooding in Lancaster caused a disaster for some home owners and businesses. On Saturday night, major floodwaters struck FIDO, a doggie day care and training facility, causing mass evacuations. Elderly dogs and dogs with health conditions were taken to the Fairfield Country Dog Shelter for the night.

Then, the next day, as the dogs were being brought back, another storm hit, and “the second flood was worse than most people know,” FIDO said in an announcement. FIDO flooded yet again, and 42 dogs had to be evacuated,  20 of them rescued by firefighters, with reports of waist-high water trapping both staff and the animals. Reports of dogs having to tread the water were made, but all the dogs were safely taken out of the building despite three to four feet of water and mud pouring in through a busted wall caused by the rushing floodwaters.

In the process of being rescued, one dog named Scooby bit a firefighter and ran from the area. Scooby’s owners left their vacation to come home and search for him. If you spot Scooby, please don’t chase him, but pass along the information to Fairfield Humane Society and Fairfield County Dog Shelter.

The owners of FIDO not only lost their entire business, which is now deemed unsalvageable, but their home, too, as it was connected to FIDO. Here is a GoFundMe if you would like to support the Wills Family as they go through this major loss.
