Columbus church roasted on Reddit for late-night noise
Some Columbus neighbors say Rock City Church is getting loud. And not just on Sundays.
Two recent Reddit threads describe ongoing noise coming from the church’s Polaris campus on Gemini Place. One post focused on Sunday services where users said worship music carries across subdivisions. In another thread, a resident claimed the same song repeated for hours on a weeknight and that it kept going until midnight. Other neighbors replied they’ve heard the same late-night noise.
Some said it’s barely noticeable. Others said it fills their home. Several wondered why amplified music would run that late. No one seemed sure if it was rehearsal or a sound test.

We reached out to Rock City, which sent 614NOW this statement:
“At Rock City Church, our goal is to serve our community, and we’re committed to being good neighbors wherever we have campuses. At our Polaris campus, we hold Sunday church services and work hard to be mindful of our sound levels. We regularly review our processes to make sure our neighbors feel respected, and we will continue to do so.”
Back in 2023, 614NOW highlighted a broader reality for Columbus: according to a study cited at the time, the city ranked among the “top 10 noisiest cities in the country,” with many establishments, from bars and nightclubs to concert venues and busy restaurants, contributing to noise pollution.
That history gives context. Polaris and surrounding neighborhoods already juggle road traffic, nightlife and a growing number of businesses. For many residents, adding a high-volume megachurch just ups the odds that someone ends up dialing 311.
Columbus noise laws rely on a simple standard. If sound is unreasonably loud or disrupts someone inside their home, residents can file a complaint. Officers typically step in only when complaints come in. The city does not enforce a strict decibel limit everywhere; enforcement depends heavily on context – time of day, distance, whether sound carries beyond property lines. Residents say this often means the only way to get relief is to call it in.
