Disbarred lawyer who used social security numbers of dead man, his girlfriend, to obtain law jobs sentenced

A disbarred Ohio lawyer who used fake identities to secure jobs in law firms was sentenced to federal prison earlier this week.

On March 10, former Cincinnati attorney Richard Crosby III was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison, which equates to three years and one month.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of social security fraud in July of 2024.

According to prosecutors, Crosby was disbarred after allegedly stealing client funds in 2021.

As he was disbarred and likely could not his own social security number, Crosby used identifying documents from his elderly father, his girlfriend, a deceased man and others to secure jobs at an online law firm and a firm based in Florida. Prosecutors said he even told one law firm he was a University of Michigan football player and a former Marine.
