Historic bar now one step closer to being demolished for housing development

A little bar with a big impact is one step closer to being demolished.

Nearly three years ago, American Campus Communities (ACC), introduced a plan to replace the beloved Little Bar, which opened in the ‘80s at 2195 N. High St., and the next door University Baptist Church with new housing developments. Since the initial proposal, the ACC has additionally committed to 20% of the housing being deemed as “affordable,” with prices as low as $450 a person (in a 4-bedroom unit).

Then, a year later, the plan was approved at a City Council meeting, with six in favor and one against.

Now, two years later, the proposal for Little Bar to be demolished for a nine-story residential building and University Baptist Church for a 12-story building is up for a vote again. With City Council’s Zoning Committee’s approval, it’s now up to The University Impact District Review Board to approve of the new buildings and the demolition of the old ones. Their meeting in May leaned in favor of the demolition and new buildings.

Right now, Little Bar is still up and running and serving thirsty college students. We’ll update you with the results of the latest meeting.
