Hundreds of flights delayed, dozens cancelled at Columbus International Airport amid government shutdown
Remember last month, when we could walk straight through security, to our gate, then board at the designated time? It’s one of the best parts of living in Columbus–are quaint and charming airport is usually very quick and reliable.
Those days are long gone, for now.
Amid this government shutdown, John Glenn International Airport is the latest airport facing mass delays and cancellations, as the FAA announced that flights in “high traffic” areas of the country would be cut.

As a result, last weekend alone faced 75 delays and 5 cancellations on Friday, then 77 delays and 30 cancellations Saturday, and 171 delays and 25 cancellations on Sunday, according to FlightAware data. On Monday, 119 flights were delayed, with 17 cancelled; yesterday, 63 delays and 8 cancellations. As for today, there have already been 7 cancellations (and 5 delays), and it’s only noon at the time this article was published.
In comparison, there were hundreds of more delays and cancellations at airports like Chicago O’Hare and LaGuardia. On Sunday, there were 454 cancellations out of Chicago, and 325 cancellations out of Los Angeles.
It’s still unclear when the government will reopen, and if flights will go back to business as usual once it does.
