Local cafe owner victim of alleged check fraud scheme

Jack McLaughlin

The owner of a popular Columbus eatery is on a mission to identify the individual who allegedly stole from the cafe’s account in a check fraud scheme.

Yesterday, Chocolate Cafe owner Lisa Boyle posted to Chocolate Cafe’s social media pages, asking the Columbus-area community for help identifying a suspected thief.

“This woman is a brazen thief. And we need to find out who she is,” the post reads. “On October 30th, she went to the Buckeye State Bank in Logan County and cashed a fake Cafe check and then withdrew money out of the Cafe business account.”

It’s not clear how much money was stolen.

According to a separate post from the Logan County’s Sheriff’s office, the incident occurred on Oct. 30, and took place at a Buckeye State Bank location.

If you have information that can lead to the identification of the woman, contact the Sheriff’s Office’s administrative line at (937) 592-5731 and ask to speak with Sgt. Brown.
