Local restaurant using bottled water to boil pasta as this Central Ohio city’s water is green and ‘tastes like a hot tub’
“Hot tub flavored spaghetti ain’t it,” joked Bucci’s Italian Scratch Kitchen on Facebook.
The restaurant, located in Marion, OH, is facing the same fate that thousands of other Marion residents are: murky water that tastes like chlorine.
As a result, Bucci’s has had to purchase hundreds of gallons of bottled water, along with bagged ice and canned soda, in order to still prepare meals that “don’t taste like a pool.” Aqua Ohio released a statement that the organic compound called geosmin was to blame, and there are no health concerns, and no need to even boil water.
“I’m not drinking it,” laughed Bucci’s owner, Alex Sheridan.

He’s now spending around $300 extra in bottled water and canned soda, which he said is rough for a restaurant. “We need a lot of sales just to make up for that,” he told us.
Fortunately, people are still coming to Bucci’s for their family style meals and delicious Italian food, and for some Marion residents, this is one of the few spots in town where the food doesn’t taste like chemicals right now, thanks to Sheridan stocking up on bottled water. “This hasn’t changed the amount of guests we have,” he said. Some residents have taken to Facebook to warn that their pizza from a chain tasted like chemicals. One person said they went to a restaurant, took a sip of Diet Pepsi, and gagged.
It’s not just his restaurant. Sheridan is a resident in Marion, too, and said his house water still tastes and smells like chlorine, even though the City of Marion has said they’re actively fixing the situation.
Aqua Water has begun the process of flushing the water system, but now, other cities such as Madison and Caledonia are starting to report foul smelling, discolored water.
