More than 50 goats killed in Licking County fire

A fire that broke out at a Licking County barn took the lives of more than 50 goats, and now a local family is picking up the pieces.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by friends of the victims, a fire broke out in the early hours of Feb. 20 in a barn owned by Rick & Julie Bernard, killing all 56 of the goats inside.

You can donate to the fundraiser here. It has currently raised nearly $2,800 of the $25,000 goal.

“The Bernards raise goats to sell to 4H kids who show at local fairs. They don’t make any money but they love to see kids succeed in the ring and in life,” the GoFundMe page reads. “This tragedy has not only caused immense emotional pain but also placed a heavy financial burden on them as they try to rebuild from the ashes.”

It’s currently unclear what caused the fire.
