You really can’t tell if a couch is comfortable or feels like sitting on bricks if you’re buying one online.

Wayfair, the national furniture retailer that generated $12.2 billion in net value in just one year, is making that a little easier.

The popular online home goods store announced this month that they’ll be opening a brick & mortar location at 1552 Gemini Place, near Polaris.

The 70,000 square foot store will serve as the company’s first prototype for a smaller-format model, said their press release, designed to test new ways of bringing Wayfair’s signature shopping experience to life.

“As we scale our retail strategy, we are focused on both expansion and experimentation,” said Liza Lefkowski, vice president of merchandising and stores at Wayfair. “Not only are we thrilled to open our first Ohio store, we are excited to see how customers respond to our efforts to provide a comprehensive home shopping experience in a smaller footprint.”

Columbus is known for being a test market, and Wayfair is planning on using this store for data and evaluations. “With a thriving community and central position in the region, Columbus offers the perfect environment for Wayfair to pilot its new smaller-format store and learn how to best serve customers across the Midwest and beyond,” said the press release.
