Ohio city named one of the 5 “neediest” cities in the country, according to WalletHub study
A Buckeye State city is one of the neediest in the country, a new WalletHub study claims.
According to the study, which sought to name the nation’s neediest cities, Cleveland has claimed the fourth overall spot. It was behind only Shreveport, Louisiana (3rd), Brownsville,Texas (2nd place) and Detroit, Michigan (1st place).
To determine which cities were the neediest, WalletHub look into data from 180 U.S. cities based on 28 key indicators of economic disadvantage, including child poverty, food insecurity and uninsured rates.

“In the neediest cities, a large number of people lack access to adequate food, health care and shelter, but there are plenty of other less obvious issues that also need to be resolved. The neediest cities need to address problems like high school dropout rates, lack of access to quality internet, overcrowded housing, poor mental health and more. Fixing these issues can lift people out of poverty, lower crime rates, and elevate people’s mental and physical health,” the WalletHub study reads.
Toledo landed on the list’s 35th spot, Cincinnati took the 47th spot and Columbus came in as the nation’s 107st neediest city.
