Ohio mayor involved in fight at 6th grade girls basketball game

The mayor of Newburg Heights, Ohio–Trevor Elkins–was involved in a fight at a 6th grade girls basketball game earlier this year, according to a Fox 8 story.
Elkins was attending his daughter’s basketball game at Nordonia Middle School, where he was involved in a fight with another child’s father.
The game, and the fight, took place in January, but was uncovered recently by the Fox 8 I-Team.

In police bodycam footage, Elkins attempts to show officers a video on his phoner to explain the altercation.
“That’s me in the blue. The guy that hits me is in yellow. Some strange man runs on the court, so I went out there to make sure nothing was gonna happen,” Elkins said “He punches me, so I obviously get angry. Went after him in response to that. I’m being restrained and he punches me again.”
The other parent, identified as Kevin Travick, said the following: “Dude ran up and swung on me,” he said. “He swung on me because I was talking to the refs. Then, I start yelling at the refs. He said something to me. I said something to him and everybody just grabbed us, and that was it.”
Both men were charged with disorderly conduct. In 2023, Elkins was also charged with disorderly conduct for an incident that took place outside of a bar.
