Ohio non-profit director facing federal prison after gambling $400K of embezzled funds at casino

A former Toledo non-profit director has been sentenced to federal prison for embezzling and gambling with funds from the organization she oversaw.

According to federal investigators, 55 year-old Toledo resident Sabina Serratos was sentenced on July 28 to 24 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to two counts of program fraud in March. She was also ordered to complete three years of supervised release and pay more than $500,000 in restitution.

The former executive director of Adelante, Inc., a non-profit group that provides resources to the Hispanic community of Toledo, Serratos had access to the organization’s bank accounts, which often received federal grant money.

Between July 2019 and June 2021, she withdrew $400,000 in cash from the Hollywood Casino Toledo for her own personal benefit, investigators said.
