Ohio ranks among the worst states in the country for mail carrier dog attacks

Look out, Ohio mail carriers.

On May 29, the United States Postal Service (USPS) released its national dog bite rankings, and the Buckeye State is near the top of the list.

According to the rankings, there were 350 mail carrier dog bites in 2024, which ranked third in the country. Texas was second with 438 dog bites, and California topped the list with 701.

The USPS also released a list of dog bites by city. Los Angeles was first with 77 incidents in 2024, but three different Ohio cities landed in the top 10. 

Cincinnati was 5th with 44 dog bites and Cleveland was tied for 7th with Kansas City, Missouri with 40 incidents. Columbus, which had 32 dog bites against mail carriers in 2024  was tied for 10th overall with Detroit Philadelphia and San Antonio.
