Ohio rec center bans pickleball due to “behavioral concerns” among adult players
If we told you a Buckeye State recreation center banned the fine sport of pickleball, you’d probably guess it had to do with a few mischievous teens stealing paddles or vandalizing the space.
And you would be wrong.
According to the director of recreation for the city of Rocky River, Bob Holub, the Rocky River Recreation Center (RRRC), recently made the decision to close pickleball courts for at least the rest of the year after “behavioral concerns related to the game.”

It appears the closure is only temporary, as Holub noted that the RRRC plans to reopen pickup pickleball after a bit of restructuring.
“We had some behavioral concerns related to the game and felt it was best for our team to evaluate the entire program and relaunch in a more structured way,” he told 614Now. “We’ve developed the new outline at this point and are looking to on-board a part-time supervisor to assist in program management. As soon as we get that wrapped up, we’ll begin taking registration for our first session.”
