Ohio State marching band tapped as country’s most popular in new study

Chances are, if you’re from Columbus, you don’t need to be told Ohio State’s marching band is the nation’s most popular, but it’s always nice to receive some national validation.

A new study from Betway Insider named OSU’s band as the country’s most popular.

The study used social media data, including Instagram and TikTok follower counts and fan engagement percentages and more to create a “popularity score” for each school’s band.

Ohio State’s Band, which is also the only all-brass and percussion college band in the nation,  boasts 182,000 Instagram followers and 400,000 TikTok followers, significantly higher numbers than any other college marching band. Its popularity score was 214.04%.

According to the study, the University of Minnesota’s marching band landed in second place, with the University of Pittsburgh Varsity Marching Band taking the third spot. The second and third place bands had popularity scores of 107.45% and 67.77% respectively.
