Popular bar to be demolished soon to make way for apartment complex
Of course, restaurants and bars being demolished and replaced by apartment complexes are a national trend, but it does seem to happen here in Columbus a lot.
And it’s going to happen again.
A plan that’s been in the works for three years has officially been approved.
Nearly three years ago, American Campus Communities (ACC), introduced their plan to replace the beloved Little Bar, at 2195 N. High St., and the next door University Baptist Church with new housing developments. Since the initial proposal, the ACC has additionally committed to 20% of the housing being deemed as “affordable,” with prices as low as $450 a person (in a 4-bedroom unit).

Then, a year later, the plan was approved at a City Council meeting, with six in favor and one against.
Now, there’s an official demolition date. In the University Area Commission’s Zoning Committee meeting last week, architect Mitchell Acock said that on January 12th, the Little Bar, which made a big impact for university students and Buckeye fans alike, will be demolished, as well as the adjacent church.
Construction is expected to last for two full years. Restrictions and closures on High Street, Lane, and Norwich are also to be expected, as the new apartment building doesn’t open until June of 2028.
As of now, Little Bar hasn’t announced a closing date.
