Rare creature caught on camera at Metro Park
An elusive nocturnal animal was spotted at a Columbus & Franklin County Metro Park.
According to a social media post from Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks, a bobcat was recently recorded at Prairie Oaks Metro Park.
“Metro Parks is excited to share a confirmed sighting of a bobcat at Prairie Oaks Metro Park! These elusive wild cats are typically nocturnal or crepuscular, meaning most active at dawn or dusk, so catching a glimpse is a rare treat,” the post reads. “Encounters like this highlight the incredible biodiversity thriving in your Metro Parks!”

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, bobcat sightings–while still rare (in part due to their nocturnal and crepuscular activity)–are now actually on the rise throughout the state as populations increase.
