Two garbage truck-related accidents this week in northeast Columbus, fire and explosion

Back-to-back garbage truck related vehicle crashes happened in northeast Columbus yesterday. The first accident occurred early Tuesday afternoon, involving a car crashing into a garbage truck at the intersection of St. Claire Avenue and East 5th Avenue. The incident resulted in three injured persons taken to the hospital.

The second garbage truck crash created an explosion and fire at Hamilton and Granville Rd Tuesday around noon, after the garbage truck appeared to tip over and crash into an electrical box. The driver was able to jump out of the vehicle, per several witnesses. Multiple members of a Gahanna-area Facebook group alleged hearing and feeling the explosion throughout parts of Gahanna, including Creekside. There did not appear to be any major injuries.
