University officials: Police say viral ‘OSU Pisser’ Instagram account is fake

Normally, getting news of a popular social media channel being fake is a bad thing. Today is the exception.

An Ohio State official told 614Now that police have determined the fast-growing OSU Pisser Instagram account–which pretended to depict an individual publicly urinating on a number of high-profile campus spots–is a hoax.

“We are aware of this social media account and others like it around the country. In this case, University Police located the person responsible and determined it was a water bottle being squirted,” said Dan Hedman, director of marketing and communications for The Ohio State University.

The account, which started in early September, gained 6,700 followers in the span of just a month, although its corresponding TikTok account was banned. According to Instagram’s terms of service, accounts depicting illegal content and inappropriate imagery are typically not allowed, but there appears to be some leeway for prank channels.

Another Instagram account, The OSU Shitter (it is what you think it is), is still active on the platform. While it, too, appears to be fake, this hasn’t been confirmed by the University or police.

Neither of the individuals behind the Instagram accounts returned a request for comment.
