How a new local child care initiative is changing the game for working parents in Central Ohio

Jack McLaughlin

If you’re a parent, you’re no doubt acquainted with the headache of arranging child care while you work. In fact, referring to the process as simply as a “headache” may be selling things short.

A central-Ohio based group Action for Children is posing a solution for families in Franklin and Licking Counties.

The group’s new Early Care and Education Business Partnership program, funded by the Ohio Department of Education and Youth, is designed to help local families with child care, starting with the workplace. During the three-year pilot period of the program, employers can receive up to $150,000 in funding for employee child care benefits.

Action for Children will match employer’s child care investments up to $150,000, providing businesses with several child care aid models, including:

  • Reserving child care slots for employees at a licensed partnered child care program in Franklin or Licking County
  • Providing child care stipends or scholarships for employees
  • Creating a customized a plan that meets employees’ needs
