Meet the historic Columbus bar that’s open 21 hours a day

Step into the Ruckmoor Lounge, where the fireplace crackles year-round, fresh coffee is always hot, and drinks won’t break the bank. In a city teeming with trendy new bar concepts, this family-owned gem remains a testament to tradition, serving patrons 21 hours a day, 365 days a year—including Christmas.

Originally established in 1958 as the Pearly Gates Motel, the business quickly evolved. Four rooms were added on the second floor—now serving as studio apartments—and in 1960, a four-stool bar was introduced in one of the rooms. As word spread and crowds grew, the bar expanded to the main floor, replacing the original motel drive-thru area with what is now the pool room. True to its roots, Ruckmoor Lounge has remained cash-only since day one.

Back when U.S. Route 23 had no streetlights in the ‘60s and ‘70s, the Ruckmoor was the only bar for miles. But its uniqueness didn’t stop there. In the 1980s, the stage featured both a pet parrot and a pet monkey, adding to its already legendary status. Today, historic photos line the walls, showcasing the lounge’s rich evolution through the decades. Despite its deep roots, the Ruckmoor embraces a diverse crowd, from dedicated regulars who arrive at 5:30 a.m. to the lively groups drawn to their $5 Whiskey Wednesdays.

Beyond its affordable drinks—$3 beer bottles and $1 jello shots—the lounge offers entertainment at every turn. Guests can play pool, throw darts, try the giant ring toss, compete in beer pong, or test their luck with KENO. The heated smoking patio provides a cozy retreat, while Friday night karaoke guarantees a good time for all.

For those craving an eclectic atmosphere where the clientele is ever-changing and the drinks keep flowing, the Ruckmoor Lounge is the place to be. Just remember to bring cash (or use the on-site ATM) and prepare for an unforgettable experience.

Follow the Ruckmoor Lounge on Facebook and Instagram (@ruckmoorlounge) for updates on drink specials and events. Doors open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.—plenty of time to stop by and see what makes this Columbus institution so special.
