Short North gathering described as the ‘best arts event in the state’ by ‘Ohio Magazine’ returning this weekend
While it offers some of the best Columbus food and fun throughout the year, the Short North Arts District comes alive every holiday season, with a full slate of festive activities and events, in addition to season-long holiday shopping deals.
One of the area’s flagship events, the Short North Gallery Hop, returns this weekend for a special holiday edition of the gathering. Holiday Hop, which is the Short North’s most anticipated event of the year, will take place Dec. 6, from 12-8 p.m.
Holiday Hop will feature a vibrant seasonal market with more than 120 vendors, live music and entertainment throughout the day, a tree lot, free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus and live ice sculpting. Visitors are even invited to add their own personal touches to a temporary community-created mural

And even if you’re putting your holiday shopping off to the last minute, the Short North is offering a full slate of seasonal retail promotions you won’t want to miss. This includes the Short North Holiday Trail, where you can receive prizes for supporting local businesses and a Holiday Scavenger Hunt for kids (those who complete either can receive a free hot chocolate and cookie from Tertulia Café, or free a warm drink from Northstar Café). Additionally, many Short North retailers have put together a selection of items under $20 in storefronts throughout the neighborhood dubbed Lil’ Shops, to help younger shoppers pick out meaningful gifts for family members and friends.
“Holidays in the Short North are all about community, creativity, and celebration, and we’re proud to offer experiences that bring people together,” said Betsy Pandora, Executive Director of the Short North Alliance. “Whether discovering local artisans, experiencing live performances, or gathering over a delicious seasonal dish, the Short North Arts District is where the magic of the season comes to life.”
This festive-themed edition of Gallery Hop, the monthly event once described by Ohio Magazine as “the best arts event in the state,” also brings an exciting line up of exhibition openings to Short North Arts District galleries. The December 6 event will also feature an Experience Columbus Welcome Center Pop Up, celebrating the soon-to-open new Short North venue, along with family-friendly fun and hands-on crafts at the Columbus Museum of Art at the Pizzuti.
New for this holiday season, participating businesses are also offering expanded free two-hour garage parking validations for patrons who enter and park at The Joseph, The Short North Garage, or The Hub from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees interested in ridesharing can access a $5 discount from Lyft by using the code SNPOLE25 for transportation to or from the event.
