New Mexican spot opens in New Albany, replacing former Local Cantina
El Rey Brasas – Mar – Tekila is officially open in New Albany at 5525 New Albany Rd W, at the site of a former Local Cantina location. The new Mexican eatery opened its doors this month, as a “tribute to tradition, flavor, and the joy of sharing great food and drinks.”
The former Local Cantina closed in January 2025, making room for El Rey to set up shop. The eatery boasts flame-grilled favorites, including fresh seafood, and “authentic dishes with a modern twist.” The restaurant also specializes in tequila, craft cocktails, and margaritas. Other menu items include a taquito flight, empanadas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, and a full list of vegetarian options. Diners can create their own combo, or enjoy a smaller lunch menu. Most meal options can be ordered for $10 to $20, per their menu and Google Business listing.
