New metro park opening this spring in South Columbus

I’m sure I’m not the only one eager to bask in some fresh air and sun this spring—enter my excitement for the new 70-acre metro park opening soon in Columbus.

Great Southern Metro Park will be open to the public April 1,  according to the Metro Parks’ website. The park, located at 125 Williams Rd., borders the Scioto River and features a 230-yard obstacle course, overlook decks, prairies, fitness stations, and both paved and nature trails.

”Great Southern Metro Park represents our continued commitment to connecting people with nature and with each other. It also moves us closer to completing a levy promise to open three new parks,” Tim Moloney, Metro Parks’ executive director, shared with the Metro Parks’ blog. “We’re excited to welcome the community to this new space and provide opportunities for recreation, wellness and connection in south Columbus.”

The park will be open year-round from 7:30 a.m. to dark. A grand opening celebration will be held from 4-6 p.m. April 1 and is open to the community.
