How a Lewis Center-based circus artist plans to break a world record, while spinning by her hair
A rite of passage for every circus entertainer is to attempt to break a world record, and for Cyara Hotopp, she is confident she will stand among the Guinness Greats.
On June 7th, Hotopp, 33, will attempt to break the world record for most spins while suspended from her hair. The current record is 68 spins in 30 seconds, tied between Polina Karvovskaya and Sara Spadoni.
Growing up in the competitive skating world, Hotopp has made a career out of spinning after taking some aerial classes as exercise. She spends her time as a circus artist, whether that be in the sky during an aerial performance, towering over crowds while stilt-walking, or dancing in a troupe. Now Hotopp is ready to give the performance of her life.

Hotopp discovered the thrill of hair suspension three years ago. Although she was implementing the trick in her average show, it wasn’t until last year that Hotopp began focusing on her core development and consistently training to achieve the perfect spins.
Hotopp practices in a studio based in Worthington, where she spends most of her time perfecting routines and experimenting with new tricks. She is currently practicing for the official Guinness attempt, which, according to her, she has already succeeded.
“I’m excited, I feel confident, I’ll be able to do it,” Hotopp said.
Follow Hotopp’s progress on her Instagram and stay tuned for official attempt updates.
