An iconic mural in the Short North neighborhood will be reimagined this spring by an acclaimed contemporary muralist whose work has been exhibited across the country and around the world.

Mandi Caskey, a.k.a Miss Birdy, will introduce a new rendition of the “Mona Lisa” mural that has graced the arts district for 35 years ever since being installed by Brian Clemons in the ‘90s. “She Moves with Color” will maintain the iconic sideways style of the original work, according to the Short North’s website

“The Mona Lisa mural has been an important symbol of the Short North’s creative history since its creation by Brian Clemons in 1990. The next chapter for this piece has been approached with care and consideration for both its past and future,” the Short North shared in an Instagram post.

Caskey’s art style is described on her website as vibrant and whimsical, with bold colors and “inspiration from nature, folklore, and local culture” present in her murals that “resonate with viewers of all ages.” The Columbus-based artist has showcased some pretty standout works in the city before, including her aptly named performance piece called “Seeds Sown in Fire” where an abandoned home in a condemned Whitehall neighborhood was graced with her art and subsequently set on fire and burned to the ground.

Installation of “She Moves with Color” will start this week on the south wall of 800 N. High St., according to the post. It is anticipated to be completed by early May.
